Wadsworth Atheneum

Festival of Trees: For over twenty years, Club members have participated in the Festival of Trees each December at the Wadsworth Atheneum, America's oldest continually operating art museum.

Fine Art & Flowers: Members are encouraged to contribute designs for the Fine Art & Flowers event in April.

Scholarships

Scholarships are funded each year by the Ways and Means project(s). The total amount was $3000 for 2022-2023.

Since 1989, an annual scholarship has been awarded to a Simsbury High School graduating senior planning to major in horticulture, forestry, botany, floriculture, conservation, agronomy, plant pathology, landscape design/architecture, city planning, environmental concerns or related subjects. The recipient is chosen by the Simsbury High School guidance department.

In the last few years, two scholarships have been awarded to students in the Naugatuck Valley Community College Associate Degree program in Horticulture.

Plant Sale/2021 Garden Tour

Money for the scholarships is raised through the annual plant sale, the major fundraiser of most years.  Members donate perennial plants from their own gardens.  In 2021, scholarship funds were raised through a Garden Tour in June.  The Garden Tour was originally planned to coincide with Simsbury’s 350th Anniversary but was postponed a year due to COVID-19 safety concerns.
